Here is an interesting historical tidbit. In 1854, a Whig candidate for New Jersey Assembly was nominated. And it made the New York Times – on November 4, 1854! I wonder if the New York Times of today would have any interest in the Modern Whig Candidate in the 14th District? You can see the article at the NY Times archive URL below:
