Creating a Better New Jersey
Citizens must be allowed the freedoms needed to pursue their own prosperity, happiness, and personal protection. In every case, government officials and government employees must remain servants and the citizens must be given the continuous ability to control government.
The Modern Whig Philosophy
Common sense. Rational Thinking. Fiscal Responsibility
National Modern Whig Platform:
Gene Baldassari has adopted the following aspects of the National Modern Whig Platform:
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY — The Modern Whig philosophy is to empower the states with the resources needed to handle their unique affairs.
ENERGY INDEPENDENCE — Reduce dependence on foreign oil by developing practical sources of alternative energy. This will have the simultaneous effect of changing the national security dynamic.
EDUCATION/SCIENTIFIC ADVANCEMENT — Increased public and private emphasis on fields such as space, oceanic, medical and Nano-technology. Also, providing common-sense solutions to enhance our educational system from pre-school to university-level studies.
STATES RIGHTS — Each state can generally determine its course of action based on local values and unique needs.
SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE — Government should refrain from legislating morality.
VETERANS AFFAIRS — Vigilant advocacy relating to the medical, financial, and overall well being of our military families and veterans.
Baldassari Specific Platform:
PROPERTY TAX RELEIF – NJ property taxes shall be reduced to less than one percent of the market value of the property. NJ Government must learn to live within the reduced government revenues that will result from lower property taxes. MORE
IMPROVED SMALL BUSINESS CLIMATE – All actions by the NJ Government must be measured against their impact on the health and creation of small businesses. Any government actions that have a serious negative free market impact on small businesses should be prohibited. MORE
ENHANCED JOB OPPORTUNITIES – Almost all-new job creation occurs from small business. Most of the new productivity that will sustain and improve the standard of living in NJ comes from the development and growth of small business. The State of NJ should create an environment that helps small and large businesses to bring new jobs to NJ and protect those that already exist. Public (government) jobs should offer salaries and benefits that are commensurate with those that are available in the private sector for a worker with similar qualifications, but no more or less.
CITIZEN FEEDBACK SYSTEM – Citizens shall be entitled to a responsive legislature that acts in their best interests. MORE
TERM LIMITS – New Jersey shall impose a term limit law on each official elected to the Assembly or Senate to insure fresh ideas and a constant turnover of representation. MORE
TENTH AMENDMENT RIGHTS – The New Jersey Legislature shall enforce The U.S. Constitution’s principle of federalism. This principle asserts that powers not specifically granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE IN HEALTH – Citizens should be allowed to choose their own health care without restriction from government officials or government workers. MORE
FREEDOM OF CHOICE IN EDUCATION – Parents should be allowed to choose the type of education that they prefer for their children. There shall be no government interference to the establishment of additional charter schools, home schools, private schools, and other methods devised by citizens to educate their children. MORE
FAIR TAX – The State legislature shall be encouraged to petition the Federal Government to repeal the 16th Amendment and also to eliminate the NJ income tax.
PRODUCTIVITY BACKED CURRENCY – NJ shall support a State backed currency that is tied to the productivity of the individuals using this currency.
